The Cigar Profiler Rating Table

In the cigar profiling method, cigars are rated on three major aspects: appearance (10%), construction (30%) and taste (60%). Appearance has the lowest weight. Personally, I dislike cigar bands because they add nothing of substance and often damage the wrapper. Appearances are also known to deceive. A smooth, oily wrapper does not guarantee a great cigar. Nevertheless, a nice band and wrapper are evidence that the manufacturer has put some effort into presentation and, as such, deserve some credit.

The construction of a cigar is way more important. A poorly constructed cigar can ruin the entire smoking experience. Consistency in construction is a very good indicator of quality. However, taste rules! In the cigar profiling method, flavor accounts for 60% of the total score. Not just the variety of flavors but also their dynamic and intensity, which are derived from the observations during smoking.

Below is the complete cigar profiler rating table. The value for each rating aspect is first divided by the maximum score for that aspect in the database (explained here) and then multiplied by its weight. The cells with the extra bold borders are used to calculate the example of the last column.

When the website is completed and you do a review, you will only be bothered with the first two columns. All the calculations are done behind the scenes. This makes reviewing fun and easy while reducing the potential for manipulation, leading to more objective ratings.
